Artist Profile: Juliet Strong
What is your earliest music memory?
Listening to my dad play the fiddle
Where is your favorite place you've performed, and why?
I love House Concerts the best because the setting is so intimate. There is a true exchange between musician and listener, and it allows for a conversation, story telling, and real connection with my audience.
Why did you start playing music?
I've been playing piano, singing, and making up songs since I was a toddler. I was lucky enough to grow up in a house with a piano and other instruments. My father is a musician, and it was just something I always was compelled to do.
What does your creation process look like?
In terms of how I write a song... I'll get an idea for something I want to write about usually while I'm on the subway or walking down the street and start making it into verses and choruses. Then as soon as I can I'll get some music under it. Lyrics and melody almost always comes first for me.
Who are some artists you admire? (Musical or otherwise)
Juana Molina, Kurt Vonnegut, Barbara Kingsolver, India Arie, Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, to name a few!
If I could play anywhere, I'd play [location]
Red Rocks!
What inspires you?
Nature, humanity, kindness, movement and adventure
